‘Renew You’ Challenge – Got a sweet tooth? I know I do, and when it starts acting up it’s hard to fight, especially since sugar is everywhere—candy, sodas, processed sweets like cookies and muffins, and heck, even those “healthy snacks” like granola bars you think are so good for you.
The problem is that once you take a bite, you just want more and more, which makes sugar cravings… well, one tough cookie to contend with. And ever notice that the more you eat, the hungrier you get? And don’t even get me started on what sugar does to your body on the inside!
Studies show that eating too much sugar leads to overweight and obesity, not to mention all of the related problems and conditions that go along with them, like metabolic syndrome and diabetes (both of which increase your risk of heart disease and stroke), a weakened immune system, and the overgrowth of harmful yeast organisms like candida. Yuck!
So this week, I want you to try to cut some sugar out of your diet. Got a hankering for something sweet? Grab an apple. Or, eat some complex carbohydrates like oatmeal and whole grains, which break down slowly to release glucose (the basic form of sugar that cells use for fuel) in the body and won’t leave you craving more sugar. Good luck!
